Biography
B. Jean Floten
B. Jean Floten, who joined Bellevue Community College as president in 1989, is widely noted for developing the college into an innovative, nationally-acclaimed institution.
Recognized as a leader in higher education, Mrs. Floten is often called upon to speak throughout the state and nation on technology education, funding, innovations in teaching, diversity, student access and other education issues.
A series of national, regional and local awards have recognized her achievements and contributions in the field of higher education:

Honorary Doctor of Letters degree conferred by City University, 2006;

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society Shirley B. Gordon Presidential Award of Distinction, 2006;

The Association of Community College Trustees Charles Kennedy National Equity Award, 2005;
-
The Association of Community College Trustees Pacific Region Equity Award, 2005;
-
"Woman of Influence" recognition from the Puget Sound Business Journal, 2005;
-
The Washington Research Council Pathfinder Award, 2000;
-
The Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges President’s Award, 1999;
-
The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education District VIII Leadership Award, 1998;
-
The Municipal League of King County Outstanding Public Official Award, 1998; and
-
The Association of Community College Administrators Earl Norman Leadership Award, 1994.
Prior to coming to BCC Mrs. Floten was Executive Vice President at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Wash., where she served previously as Dean of Student Services and Director of Student Programs.
Earlier in her career Mrs. Floten taught speech and communications at Mt. Hood (Ore.) Community College and Portland (Ore.) State University.
Mrs. Floten serves on the Educational Testing Service national advisory board, the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Key Bank Advisory Board.
She earned Master of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Portland State University.
