The TOP TEN ways to be successful in college:

1. Make your college education your #1 priority! Have fun, get involved, but learn to balance your time.

2. Be Wise, Get Advised! Seek academic advising right away and before registering for classes.

3. Attendance matters. Expect your instructors’ expectations to be challenging. Be ready to put forth extra effort. Work to build positive relationships with your instructors and find out how to contact them.

4. Schedule dedicated study time. You’ll need 2 to 3 hours of study time for every hour in the classroom. Begin studying the first day of class.

5. Ask for help immediately. When a class seems a bit difficult, use campus academic support services (i.e. talk to your instructor and get tutoring).

6. Don’t procrastinate on studies and assignments. An academic quarter is only 11 weeks long. Time can slip away before you know it!

7. Take HD 120, a course designed to help you to improve the way you learn and to help you achieve your academic goals.

8. Get involved in campus activities and organizations. Connect with others.

9. Get organized. Keep and read all of your course syllabi and use a calendar!

  10. Remember, transcripts are permanent.  Future colleges will see your transcripts.
