ALDAC 230A Introduction to Family Systems: Intervention and Prevention
Examines techniques for early and long-term treatment of chemical dependency with focus on counseling families, couples, and significant others. Students learn the "developmental model for recovery" and intervention and prevention techniques within family systems of culturally diverse, chemically dependent populations. ALDAC 295A Psychopathology for Addiction Counselors
This course is designed to meet the education topic requirements for certification as a chemical dependency professional in abnormal psychopathology. Participants will learn how to use the DSM IV to identify different signs and symptoms of mental illness, chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders, different modalities and philosophies for the treatment of co-occurring illnesses, and how to differentiate between substance induced mental illness and mental illnesses that are masked by substance use. 5 Credits

HSSA 095A DUI Assessment
This workshop focuses on strategies for improving effectiveness with resistant patients at the crucial point of assessment. Denial, defensiveness, and minimization can make the diagnostic process a challenging task, especially among those court referred.
