HSSA100A Professional Development in Addiction Counseling
This course is designed to introduce students to state mandated certification requirements for Chemical Dependency Professionals and Registered Counselors. Participants will learn general legal and ethical responsibilities for becoming a certified healthcare provider, how to create a professional portfolio, and other skills related to entering the field of chemical dependency counseling and substance abuse prevention. This course is required for all students in the Alcohol/Drug Counseling Program. Required prior to ALDAC 106 & 108. 1 Credit

HSSA 204A Adolescent Addiction: Assessment and Treatment

ALDAC 220 Addiction Counseling Clinical Practicum
Provides work experience under qualified supervision in a DASA-certified facility. Designed to meet Washington Administrative Code requirements (WAC 388-805-240). Prerequisite: ALDAC 106, 108 and 206 or Director permission. 3 Credits

If a student is not working in a chemical dependency treatment program with supervision by an approved CDP supervisor, the student is required to commit to 100 hours of volunteering in a Chemical Dependency Treatment Program and be supervised by an approved CDP supervisor.
Addresses the processes and behaviors leading to alcohol/drug relapse. Chemical dependency counselors learn methods for preventing relapse and promoting recovery for a client. Prerequisite: ALDAC 100, 101, 1o2 and 103. 2 Credits

HSSA 230WBL Introduction to Family Systems: Intervention and Prevention

Examines techniques for early and long-term treatment of chemical dependency with focus on counseling families, couples, and significant others.
