ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION CLASSES

Strategies for Learning English Through Reading and Strategies for Learning English through Grammar and Writing are designed to help high intermediate English-as-a-second language (ESL) students with academic intent to:

  • Build reading skills in the areas of comprehension and vocabulary
  • Improve listening and speaking skills with material that is coordinated with reading content
  • Improve grammar through editing
  • Develop writing skills at the sentence and paragraph level with material that is linked to reading content
  • Build academic skills to prepare for the English Block classes (ENGL 071/072/073/074) or other college classes

Developmental Education Classes:

  • Meet daily Monday through Friday
  • Day classes
  • Earn college credit
Students must pay college tuition and buy books and materials. Financial aid available for students who qualify.

Requirements:

  • Placement by the College English Assessment Test
  • Enrollment in the Reading Lab for one or two credits
