Welcome to the Volunteer Literacy Program at Bellevue Community College
The Volunteer Literacy Program is looking for dependable individuals to join our team in providing support and encouragement to students in the Adult Basic Education program.
The ABE program provides free classes to help adult learners of all ages improve their reading, writing, and math skills, and offers GED preparation courses at no cost to Washington residents 19 years or older.
In addition, the program also offers free English as a Second Language classes for immigrants and refugees. Volunteers work in a variety of ways in support of the Adult Basic Education program.
By becoming a volunteer you have an opportunity to play an important role in the lives of these students. By giving of your time and offering encouragement and reinforcement, you can help these students succeed in achieving their personal and professional goals.
Volunteers are asked to commit to 2-4 hours per week for a minimum of six months. During this time you will receive training and on-going support and direction from the teachers and staff in the program.
