BELLEVUE BACK ON TRACK WITH SERIES SWEEP OVER OLYMPIC COLLEGE
After dropping four of their last five games, the BCC Baseball team returned to their winning games by completing a sweep of Olympic Community College April 26-27. In game one, Bellevue put together a two out rally in the top of the seventh to claim a 3-2 victory. With one out in the top of the seventh, freshman first basemen Riley Tompkins reached base with a single. Connor Rankin followed by grounding into a fielder’s choice. Freshmen third basemen Brett Dvorak then singled to bring up freshman shortstop Hunter Beaty. With two on and two outs, Beaty delivered a two run double to give Bellevue the lead, and ultimately the win. Starting pitcher Brad Reid went the distance to pick up his sixth win of the season. He went all seven innings, gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and struck out eight Olympic batters. The win brings Reid’s record to 6-0 with a 0.54 E.R.A. In game two, the Bulldogs broke up a 4-4 tie in extra innings by scoring the 3 runs in the top of the tenth to win their second consecutive game. Bellevue got the rally started with back to back singles from Jeff Hanna and Keegan Acker. After a fielder’s choice, sophomore Will Campbell drove in Acker with a RBI single. Following a rare batter interference call to Jason Moseby, Rankin delivered a big two out two run double to give the Bulldogs a 7-4 lead. Brent Miller, who came in relief in the ninth inning, retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the tenth to secure his second win of the season. Starting pitcher Stephen Foster battled through eight walks to throw eight innings, giving up only two runs on four hits, while striking out nine and finishing with a no-decision Campbell, Beaty, and Acker added two hits apiece to lead the Bulldog offense, including Campbell’s third homerun of the season in the top of the fourth inning. The Bulldogs returned home to Courter Field for games three and four of the series on April 27, and the results proved to be much the same. In game three, the bats came alive for Bellevue in 10-3 win. Five Bellevue Bulldogs recorded multi-hit games as BCC piled on the runs, scoring one in the first, two in the second, four in the fourth and three in the fifth. Campbell smacked another big RBI double in the series, and Beaty added a RBI triple. Starting pitcher Cody Goodfellow threw six strong innings, striking out a season high ten batters, and allowed only one run on four hits. Brett Dvorak came on in the seventh to close out the game. In the series finale, starting pitcher Ryan Davis went the distance to help secure an 8-2 victory for the Bulldogs. He struck out eleven batters, and gave up two earned runs while scattering five hits. Hunter Beaty continued to swing a hot bat, adding two more hits for the Bulldogs and including an RBI double. For the weekend, Beaty sported a .538 batting average, and amassed two doubles, two triples, and five RBIs to lead the Bellevue offense. With the weekend sweep, Bellevue improved to 11-5 in league play and 23-13 overall. Up next for the Bulldogs is a big weekend showdown with Northern Region rival Edmonds Community College (14-2, 27-4). Saturday’s doubleheader will be played at home starting at 1:00pm, and Sunday Bellevue will travel up to Edmonds for another 1:00pm start. |
