DEVED 061 and DEVED 062 are courses specifically designed to help ESL students improve academic reading and writing skills
This 11 or 12-credit combined course prepares English-as-a-Second-Language students for credit courses by building reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and writing skills. Students participate in writing work which coordinates with reading, speaking and listening activities. Plan to spend one hour in the Reading Lab during the first week of the quarter for orientation.
Prerequisite: Placement by assessment. Fee: $18.80 computer use.

The English as a Second Language classes are designed for immigrants, refugees, permanent residents, and U.S. citizens. People on student or tourist visas are not eligible and should contact International Student Programs at (425) 564-2341.
These classes have a $25 tuition charge per student per quarter with a waiver for students who cannot pay. Placement by assessment. Come to R230 or call (425) 564-2341 for more information.

For intermediate/advanced level ESL. Students learn to write a resume, complete application forms, practice interview skills and find resources for gaining employment.

For intermediate level English speakers. Intensive practice in speaking, listening, reading, and writing helps students prepare for work while learning basic computer skills.

Intermediate/advanced ESL students will learn how to communicate effectively in the workplace; writing letters, e-mails and memos, speaking and working with co-workers, managers and customers.

Section C combines in classroom and online learning. One hour per week of online work is required for this class, plus access to a computer.
This class prepares level 6 English-as-a-Second Language students for credit courses and other purposes by building writing, editing, reading, research and computer skills to participate in a real business, the publication of a literacy newspaper. The English Language Institute offers English language training for all non-native speakers of English, including immigrants, refugees, permanent residents, U.S. citizens, and foreign nationals holding all types of visas. You can register for the following classes by phone, online at by phone or on campus with International Student Programs in B233 in the Student Services Building.
