Mission and Goals

BCC Faculty and Staff Learning Communities

Any BCC Faculty or Staff member is welcome to use the Faculty Resource Center curriculum design, web development, training and consulting services to develop their own web enhanced or online faculty or staff learning community. BCC Teaching Institute

Sponsor: The Faculty Resource Center and the Office of Faculty Professional Development

Membership: 15 BCC instructors, new, experienced, full-time and adjunct

Project Length: 1 year

Online: 2-3 weeks online interaction in August

Face-to-Face: 2 full days in September and then 2 hours sessions on all-campus Wednesdays and Professional Development days

Goal: Use and provide feedback on BCC support for faculty involved in the scholarship of teaching.

The Liberal Arts Center Visiting Scholar Learning Community
Sponsor: The BCC Liberal Arts Center

Membership: 15 – 20 BCC faculty and staff each quarter

Project Length: Varies. Offered annually.

Online: Assignments and Learning Resources made available.

Face-to-Face: Workshops, seminars or weekly meetings. Variable.

Goal: To learn more about the issues and context of the Scholar-in-Residences home community and how to incorporate that knowledge into instruction here at BCC.

Washington Center for Information Technology

Sponsor: The National Science Foundation, BCC, WAOL and NWCET

Membership: 25 IT instructors from high schools, colleges and universities across the state of Washington, 4 instructional support personnel, 5 IT industry representatives

Project Length: 3 years

Online: Online Toolkit and curriculum design support

Face-to-Face: Overnight retreats in the Spring of each year hosted at various locations throughout the state.

Goal: Use WCIT curriculum design support model to create and implement IT curriculum.

The Washington Executive Leadership Academy

Sponsor: This program is sponsored by the Washington Association of Community & Technical Colleges (WACTC, the president's association), the Trustee's Association of Community & Technical Colleges (TACTC), the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) and The Association of Washington Community & Technical Colleges Administrators (The ASSOCIATION, a professional development organization).

Membership: 25 Chairs, Deans and Vice-Presidents from Washington State community colleges.

Project Length: 1 year

Online: 2 week online interaction Fall, and Spring of each year.

Face-to-Face: Weeklong retreat in June of each year

Goal: The Washington Executive Leadership Academy (WELA) is designed to identify and equip administrators to move into Dean, VP and President positions.
