The Seattle Chapter of the American Red Cross honored Continuing Education’s Project Management certificate program last week for volunteer work totaling more than 5,000 hours so far. The Red Cross has been the beneficiary for the past 1½ years of team projects by students in the program’s final class. The students have completed a wide variety of projects during that time, with one -- a field operations guide -- being adopted for use by the Red Cross nationally. The Seattle Chapter’s Board of Trustees presented a commemorative plaque to Margaret Murphy, director of BCC’s Continuing Education Business and Professional Programs, and Jorja Gunderson, program coordinator. Launched in 2001, the program has graduated about 250 students to date.

BCC will be one of hundreds of colleges hosting a virtual booth during College Week Live Nov. 12 – 13. The online, virtual exhibit hall provides information on general college application topics along with streaming video of keynote speakers. Students can browse booths, chat live with college representatives and download documents to their home computer. Check out BCC’s booth at www.collegeweeklive.com.

BCC’s Radiation Therapy Program, chaired by Julius Armstrong, received renewed accreditation for the next eight years – the maximum period awarded – from the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.

Sixty-three students and four chaperones from Tezukayama Junior High School in Japan spent nine days on campus in August, taking English as a Second Language classes, talking with English conversation partners, and having fun with a card-making classes, line dancing, blueberry-picking and sight-seeing. Now in its fifth year, the annual visit is a joint project of BCC’s International Student Programs and English Language Institute.
