THE VENTURE PROGRAM

Venture program offers a comprehensive program combining academics, workforce development, and social/life skills for students challenged with learning, cognitive and intellectual disabilities. The program prepares students to become independent, productive and responsible citizens, and strives to maximize each student’s potential.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Dean of Continuing Education the Program Manager provides leadership, direction, management, and evaluation of the Venture program for Unique Learners.  The manager works directly with instructional divisions, community partners, and advisory committees to ensure that the program curriculum meets the needs of the students as well as state and college academic policies.  The manager will lead the development, planning, coordination, promotion, execution, and assessment of the Venture Program that will meet the complex student and community needs for intellectually and learning disabled students including the supervision of all program faculty and staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Two years of experience in high school or college education and managing programs
  • Experience in working with and managing faculty
  • Working knowledge of the fields of teaching and special education
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as documented by successful experience working cooperatively with the public and faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians of special needs individuals
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication and in listening
  • Commitment to unique students, community, and teaching excellence
  • Demonstrated commitment to pluralism and multiculturalism.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Genuine enthusiasm for and commitment to fostering postsecondary educational excellence for intellectually and learning disabled students in a learning college environment
  • Commitment to participatory decision-making
  • Understanding of national and local laws and procedures for postsecondary special needs students.
  • Ability to use word processing, spread sheets and data bases and to learn new computer systems quickly as needed
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in connecting to and working with the professional special needs communities
  • High interest in student satisfaction; ability to adjust quickly according to the changing needs of the client population
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Represent the college in the community by networking with schools, special education-based agencies and organizations in the area of postsecondary education for the intellectually and learning disabled.
  • Manage budget resources effectively; including operating budget, special funds, and budget projections ensuring the program cover its direct and indirect costs.
  • Provide guidance to program counselor who provides student advice and guidance.  Assist with problem resolution.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with academic policies and state and federal guidelines.
  • Organize and facilitate a Technical/Professional Advisory Board consistent with the Washington Administrative Code consisting of community and workforce leaders, and additional parent liaison team.
  • Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Workforce Development, the Executive Dean, and other departments chairs and instructors to ensure the curriculum effectively supports academic standards
  • Teach one class per year/quarter for the purpose of interacting with students, understanding classroom dynamics and understanding of the implementation of various practices designed to address the needs of the unique learner population.

SALARY

The salary range is $48,388 - $58,066 with placement based on education and related experience.
