DEPARTMENT:       EARLY LEARNING, FAMILY, AND CHILDCARE CENTER

 

SALARY:                    Range 36: $2,378 - $3,074 per month

DEPARTMENT:

The Early Learning, Family, and Childcare Center is a center where the children's program is planned around a child-centered philosophy.  We believe that children's needs are best met when they are accepted at their own developmental level and encouraged to learn through rich experiences.  We provide quality, affordable childcare and family support for families and children 3 months to 6 years.  The Center is open Monday through Friday from 6:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction, assume responsibility for assigned teaching duties and the daily operations of assigned classroom(s).   Provide pre-school aged children with a learning environment and varied experiences which help them develop in all areas in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development, while supporting parent involvement.  Duties will be performed in classrooms, on playground, in meetings, and on field trips.  In accordance with the ELFCC philosophy and policies, provide quality programming to meet the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of children within a group setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of experience in an early childhood program, AND 30 quarter credit hours in early childhood development/education/special education OR equivalent education/experience.

 

SPECIFIC POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Have or obtain, within 90 days of hiring, current infant/child CPR; basic first aide; and blood borne pathogen/HIV/AIDS training.
  • Proof of negative TB skin test
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA/AAS degree with 45 credit hours (or ECE certificate) of Early Childhood Education AND one year experience working with children of the ages enrolled in the program, OR 45 credits in early childhood education (or ECE certificate) AND two years experience working with children of the ages enrolled in the program.
  • Must be able to supervise children by sight and capable of moving quickly in order to prevent possible injury.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate and communicate with students, staff and faculty of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be responsive to the needs of a diverse student population and community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum in a developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Supervise and direct the work of part-time employees, volunteers, and early childhood students.
  • Assume responsibility for the classroom in the Specialist’s absence.
  • Work and support the classroom and program as a member of a team.
  • Communicate with parents.
  • Set and model the highest professional standards.
  • Be familiar with and implement requirements in the Washington State Minimum Licensing Requirements for Childcare Centers.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment.

 

Union shop provisions cover this position as the result of a majority vote by employees in the bargaining unit.  All employees must either join the Washington Public Employee’s Association and pay regular union dues or pay a union representation fee on date of hire as required by the Dept of Personnel, Higher Ed. Division rules.
