Goal: Find one article from a newspaper and one from a popular magazine.

Sample Topic: Women in Afghanistan (women’s rights in Afghanistan)
  1. Go to the Library Media Center Home page. http://www.bcc.ctc.edu/lmc
  2. Click on Periodical Articles.
  3. Click on EBSCOhost.
  4. Choose the appropriate file for your source.
  5. Find an article about the Women in Afghanistan (Women’s right in Afghanistan).

    Compare the following search query below and take a short note of each result.

    a) women in Afghanistan
    b) women and Afghanistan
    c) women or Afghanistan
    d) women and right* and Afghanistan
    e) Make your own

    ***What is the differences between “and” and “or”?
    Is it a good idea to use an article, such as “in”? Why or why not?

  6. Find a full-text article you like and send it to your e-mail address.
  7. Identify the sources; Is it a newspaper article or a popular magazine article
  8. (e.g. Time, Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report)?
  9. What is the name of the source, title of the article, author, and publication date?
  10. Find out how you can send articles you find to your e-mail address.



Extra Credit:

Write down 7 popular magazines titles and explain the subject/s they cover.

e.g. Time – covers General Interests, Sociology, and Religion
