The Internet (World Wide Web) is a fairly new source of information. Anyone can put anything on the Internet! You must evaluate websites to make sure they are a good source of information.

When you evaluate a website, here is what to look for:


Look at the following website and answer the questions:
http://www.epa.gov/globalwarming/

  1. Can you tell who created this website?





  2. Is there a bibliography or another way to tell where the website gathered information?





  3. Is there a date on the website telling you when it was updated?





  4. Does the website information seem correct?





  5. Does the website show only one opinion or viewpoint?

Why is it important to evaluate information you find on the Internet?

Vocabulary:
Evaluate: To determine the quality of an item.
Opinion: A personal view or belief. Opinions may or may not be based on fact.
Viewpoint: A particular manner of looking at something
