"The Public Library of Science (PLoS) is a non-profit organization of scientists and physicians committed to making the world's scientific and medical literature a freely available public resource." Read current articles from the PLoS journals. Articles are interesting and detailed, but not overly complex and wordy. This is a great organization.

This free, web-based encyclopedia is a great source for background information on biology topics. Information is available in over 30 languages, and the site provides additional web and print resources.
