BCC’s ‘Celebration!’ jazz ensemble takes first at Reno Jazz Festival

BELLEVUE, WASH. – For the second year in a row, the Bellevue Community College vocal jazz ensemble "Celebration!" has won first place among two-year and four-year college choirs at the Reno Jazz Festival, sponsored by the University of Nevada-Reno. The competition was held April 22-24 in Reno.

The achievement follows their first-place performance in the College Multi-Microphone Division at the University of Idaho Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival February 26.

The Reno and Lionel Hampton events are the two of the largest jazz festivals in the world.

The 21-member ensemble, made up solely of students, is directed by BCC Music Instructor Tom Almli and is accompanied by the school’s student instrumental jazz combo. The group can be heard at The Triple Door in Seattle on May 6, 2004 at 7:30 PM.
