BCC Diversity Caucus names
eight Living Treasures

BELLEVUE --BCC’s Diversity Caucus has named four employees and four students as Living Treasures, a designation which honors those who have made a difference in advancing pluralism on the Bellevue Community College campus.

Employees receiving the award are: Edward Biggers, Material Resources Manager; Agnes Figueroa Martinez, Director of Computing Services; Nora Lance, Associate Director of Student Programs; and Juan Ulloa, Webmaster. Students receiving the award are Michael Akrish, Jennifer Lina, Sergey Smirnov and Katie Wilson.

A celebration dinner is held annually to honor new and past awardees.

“Living Treasures,” says Diversity Caucus member Akemi Matsumoto, “serve as models and mentors, providing inspiration with their purpose, heart and wisdom. They are our folk heroes who live amongst us. This special distinction is our gift to our beloved “elders” as well as an expression of our gratitude for all they have done.”

BCC’s Diversity Caucus is a grassroots, anti-racism organization that sponsors several ongoing programs, including Courageous Conversations, where both faculty and students are invited to discuss race and grow in interpersonal understanding.
